About This Spot

Stepping into Hunan Restaurant on Clayton Road in Concord feels like settling into a well-loved neighborhood spot where warm familiarity meets a touch of quiet bustle. The space is inviting, intimate, and focused more on the food and connection than on flash or fanfare. Here, the rhythm is steady but unhurried—the perfect backdrop to savoring a meal that brings a sense of comfort without rushing.

The atmosphere carries an unpretentious charm. It’s the kind of place where locals swing by for a reliable, flavorful meal, especially during busy evenings or lunchtime breaks. Though the dining area is modest in size, it creates a closeness that invites conversation and shared moments over plates of food richly seasoned with tradition.

The cuisine itself tells a story of Hunan province’s bold yet balanced flavors. Whether it’s a steaming bowl of hot and sour soup that holds a surprise hint of shrimp and pork or the subtle fire of Szechuan-style spicy chicken, each dish is thoughtfully crafted to offer layers rather than just heat. The menu's range—from crispy spring rolls to hearty Chow Fun combinations—feels both approachable and satisfying, inviting you to explore beyond familiar favorites.

The joy of dining here comes not just from individual dishes but from the generous portions and the steady, friendly service that eases you into the meal. It’s a place where the staff meet busy nights with warmth, and where those visiting for lunch or dinner can expect quick, attentive care paired with well-prepared food that speaks honestly of home-cooked intentions.

For those in pursuit of authentic, well-made Hunan and Chinese fare amid the everyday hum of a close-knit community, Hunan Restaurant offers a quietly confident spot to savor something real and rooted.

Wow.. very surprised at how well the food is here. I think they have the best hot and sour soup I've ever had and its unique with shrimp and pork. Highly impressed with any of the menu options we get from here. Its also reasonably priced. On one occasion (they were super busy on a friday eveing) the food was a bit heavy on the oil, but overall the food is fantastic. I usually call in the order and take out. Staff is also very nice.

Best barbecue pork chow fun. Dry it without gravy. Best price in town for high quality and quantity!

Tried this location during lunch in Friday. Got the classic lunch special for takeout . Pros: great price($12), great location, generous proportions, quick service. Con: my opinion is that if a Chinese restaurant can’t make a great lunch special then it’s not a great 5 star location. The meat was ok. But the pros balance it out, specially with other items in the menu that I haven’t tasted yet. So a 4 star for now is fair. But I’ll definitely give them another try. Update on my second time here. The broccoli beef was kind of chewy so I would’ve recommended beef but chicken was delicious. Third update . Had the kungpow chicken was way too citrusy. I tested more like orange than the normal sauce. I do not recommend that particular plate but still fantastic price.

During our visit to someone in the area, we chose to enjoy Chinese food and ended up at this restaurant. The dining space was a little small, but I must say the food was quite delicious.

Love this place. Food is excellent and the staff are always friendly even when they are really busy. If you are in the mood for Chinese food this is my go to.

This place has great Chinese food. Service is great as well. The only thing they could improve on is the atmosphere, it needs a remodel. Both outside and inside need work. But don’t let that fool you the food is excellent.

There were 4 of us, and we decided on the "Menu D," which included Hot and Sour soup, pot stickers, spring rolls, 2 kinds of shrimp, orange chicken, broccoli beef, and noodles. Every dish was delicious, but the Hot and Sour Soup, the orange chicken, and the Walnut Shrimp were above and beyond our expectations. In spite of our hearty appetites, we left with a bag of leftovers. Next time I go there, I'm going to get walnut shrimp! The staff were delightful, with efficient service and friendly good humor. The setting was not elegant, but rather classic 1950's. As an additional bonus, the restroom was wonderfully clean. We will definitely return.
